Boone County emergency management officials said there were more than 60 slide off accidents between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Monday because of slick road conditions.
About half of those accidents took place on Clark Lane in the northeast part of Columbia.
Police shut down a section of Clark Lane between the I-70 connector and the Lake of the Woods exit because of the high amount of accidents.
Also, a Columbia city plow truck and a tow truck slid off the road on Clark Lane.
Some area residents said a turning lane on the 2-lane road would help prevent accidents.
City officials said they have no immediate plans for any changes.
The problem was that we had the freezing temperatures that happened pretty quickly," Public Works spokeswoman Jill Stedem said. "We didn TMt get enough treatment down as soon as we could have. Clark Lane is obviously going to see some improvements over the next few years as Clark Lane changes and expands. Right now, we don TMt have any plans to do anything different.
Stedem said Clark Lane is a priority street for the Columbia Public Works Department when treating roads for slick conditions.
