Six arrested for DWI at Columbia checkpoint

A sobriety checkpoint in Columbia resulted in multiple arrests.

An overnight sobriety checkpoint in Boone County has resulted in six misdeamnor driving while intoxicated arrests, three arrests for driving with a suspended license, two arrests for outstanding warrants, one stolen vehicle recovered and one citation for driving without a valid license.

The Boone County Sheriff's Department set up the checkpoint on the 4300 block of Mexico Gravel Road in Columbia from 11:53 p.m. Saturday night to 2:54 a.m. Sunday morning.

The recovered stolen vehicle was abandoned by an unknown person after avoiding the sobriety checkpoint and driving the vehicle into a nearby field.

The person then fled on foot. They have not been apprehended or identified at this point.

Around 150-200 vehicles were stopped at the checkpoint.
