Shots fired at JCPD officers while executing narcotics search warrant
JEFFERSON CITY —
A suspect fired a weapon toward Jefferson City Police officers during a high risk narcotics related search warrant Monday afternoon.
Lt. Pat McCutchen said no officers were injured.
The JCPD SWAT Team conducted the search warrant in the 1000 block of Poplar Street around 12:45 p.m.
McCutchen said once the SWAT Team made entry into the residence they were immediately confronted by a suspect who fired the weapon toward officers, barely missing them. The subject then fled to the basement of the house, dropped his gun, and attempted to escape out the back door where he was met by SWAT Team perimeter officers and quickly taken into custody.
The investigation was taken over by the Jefferson City Police Department Detective Section. The suspect had been released to the Cole County Jail.
McCutchen said the suspect is awaiting Federal Weapons and Narcotics charges.
