Shootout racer dies from crash injuries

A Rhode Island man involved in a high-speed boat crash at the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout died from his injuries.

According to Outerlimits Powerboats' Facebook page, the company's owner/CEO, Michael Fiore, 44, died Tuesday night.

The statement said Fiore died at University Hospital after developing complications from surgery.

"the entire Outerlimits family is devastated by the loss of our friend and leader of our company. Mike's love for high speed boating was only out matched by the love for his wife, three young children and his family," General Counsel of Outerlimits Offshore Powerboat Company, Frank Sciacca said.

Saturday, Fiore's 42' Catamaran flipped at the 34-mile-marker at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Just after 10:30 a.m., wind caused the boat to go airborne. It overturned twice before landing bow first and coming to a rest.

Both Fiore and his driver, Joel Begin, 47, was also injured in the crash.

Begin was taken to lake regional hospital with serious injuries.
