The Missouri Senate has backed a proposed constitutional amendment that would permit an early voting period.
Senators approved the measure 22-8 early Tuesday, sending it back to the House. Lawmakers have until Friday evening to approve legislation. If passed by the Legislature, the proposal would appear on this year's ballot.
The Senate-backed measure would allow for early voting on six days, but not on weekends. Early voting would end the Wednesday before Election Day.
Another early voting proposal also could be heading for the ballot. Supporters of an initiative petition submitted signatures this month seeking to get their proposal on the fall ballot. It would allow early voting for six weeks, including weekends for the final 21 days before an election.
