Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop A confirms that Ian McCarthy was taken into custody Tuesday evening. KRCG 13 is working to confirm the details of his capture.

Earlier on Tuesday, the search in a west-central Missouri town for a man charged in the death of a police officer has been called off.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol issued the statement just after 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control, the Clinton Police Department and the Henry Country Sheriff’s Office had continued their search for Ian McCarthy in Chilhowee after receiving a sighting report of the suspect. Chilhowee sits 22 miles northwest of Clinton.

The 39-year-old Clinton resident has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action for the death of officer Gary Michael.

Court documents stated the incident occurred in front of the Henry County Library around 10:45 p.m. Sunday.

MSHP stated McCarthy was considered armed and dangerous and anyone with information regarding his whereabouts should contact law enforcement, call 911 or dial *55 on a cellular phone.
