Riding for a cause

Riders from across mid Missouri participated in MFA's first annual Poker Run Saturday.

For $30 each participants chose from four different routes with starting points in Jefferson City, Columbia, Sedalia and Lake Ozark.

Each route was about 100 miles and included seven stops with the finish line at Memorial Park in Jefferson City where there was a live auction and announcement of winners after a barbeque.

Event coordinators said over 500 people participated in the event and were allowed to use pretty much any type of vehicle they wanted.

"Anything 2 wheels or 4 wheels, anything that can get you from the starting line to the finish line today and make stops at various retail locations along the way, MFA Oil TMs director of marketing Tom May said. At each location you draw a card and that allows you to play a poker hand to the best 5 cards you get and that puts you in the running for a trip for 2 to Daytona including airfare, hotel and $500 cash."

It was just a good day to get away, be with friends and have a good time, participant Nina Wallace said.

All poker run proceeds will be split equally between Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mid-Missouri and University of Missouri Children's Hospital.
