      Repairing pesky potholes

Melting snow and rain, along with an extreme swing in temperatures are causing a pothole problem across the state.

This winter??s unusual weather has forced MoDOT crews to repair potholes earlier than normal.

State highway officials said melting snow and rain, along with an extreme swing in temperatures are causing a pothole problem across the state.

Boone County MoDOT crews have been patching some of the worst spots in the Columbia area.

You should be prepared for short-term lane closings with crews and equipment filling potholes across Mid-Missouri over the next several days.

Maintenance Crew Leader Rich Skelton said, ??When you see the flashing lights and the arrows, slow down. Give us room to work. Let us get the road fixed so we can give you a good, smooth surface to drive on.??

The repairs are a temporary patch made of cold asphalt.

Crews will return in the spring with stronger materials for a more permanent fix.
