The City of Columbia warns of a scam artist targeting the city's utility customers.
Someone called a Columbia water and light customer and told them they were behind on their electric bill. The victim noticed the phone number on their caller ID was not local and alerted city officials.
Water and light officials say they always mail out notifications of late bills, then place an automated phone call before the service is shut off.
