Police search for missing toddler near St. Louis

Tyler Daniel Dasher, 1, of Affton was reported missing on Tuesday. Authorities issued a St. Louis Area Regional Amber Alert for Dasher.

The St. Louis Post Dispatch is reporting the mother of Tyler Dasher is the person police have taken into custody. reports charges have not been filed, nor has the 20-year-old mother been formally booked.

AFFTON, Mo. (AP) -- A person has been taken into custody in connection with the death of a 1-year-old boy whose body was found near a St. Louis County cemetery.

Police say in a news release that the person was taken into custody early Wednesday in the disappearance and death of Tyler Dasher.

The person has not been booked into jail and police say no further information will be released until the prosecuting attorney reviews the investigation.

Tyler was reported missing from his home in Affton, about 10 miles southwest of St. Louis, around 11 a.m. Tuesday. His mother, Shelby Dasher, told police she overslept that morning and discovered him gone from his crib when she awoke.

Tyler's body was discovered Tuesday afternoon near a cemetery, about a mile from home.

Update: 8:01 p.m. Nov. 15:

A body found near a St. Louis County cemetery has been confirmed as that of a missing 1-year-old boy. County Police spokesman Rick Eckhard says the medical examiner made the confirmation Tuesday night. Eckhard says the cause of death has not been determined.

The mother of Tyler Dasher reported her son missing around 11 a.m. from the Affton home they share with the toddler's grandmother. Police said citizens walking in a wooded area discovered the body around 3:30 p.m., about a mile from the home. Shelby Dasher told police she put her son in his crib around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Police say no more information will be released until Wednesday morning.

Update: 3:45 p.m. Nov. 15: Police in St. Louis are reporting they found a dead baby near the River Des Peres Tuesday afternoon. KMOV is reporting police confirmation that the body is a toddler, but have not confirmed it is Tyler Dasher. KMOV is also reporting one person is in handcuffs at the scene.Original Story:Authorities are searching the Affton area in St. Louis County after a woman reported her toddler son missing.

The child is Tyler Dasher, a 1-year-old who weighs 20 pounds and is 2 feet tall. Authorities say he can stand but not walk on his own.

A witness told police a man was seen walking along a nearby street with a child wrapped in a blue blanket. Police have not identified any suspects.

Tyler's mother, 20-year-old Shelby Dasher, told authorities she put him to bed about 10:30 p.m. Monday. She overslept and reported him missing after she awoke about 11 a.m.

St. Louis County officer Rick Eckhard says there is no way to explain how the boy got out of his crib, out of his room or out of his house.
