Police: Columbia man arrested after setting woman's porch on fire
Officers took a Columbia man into custody late-Sunday after he was accused of arson earlier in the evening.
James Leroy Bailey Jr., age 50, from Columbia, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree arson.
Police said a female victim had called them at 7:35 p.m., saying Bailey was intoxicated, threatening to kill her and burn down her residence in the 1200 block of Larch Court.
She called 30 minutes later reporting that Bailey had threatened to set her porch on fire. The Columbia Fire Department put out the fire after arriving on scene.
Officers saw a pile of burnt clothes, paperwork and trash on the concrete patio of the residence, the release stated. They also found two burnt propane bottles near the residence.
The fire caused about $1,000 in damages, according to the fire department.
