Columbia police are still trying to put the pieces together on what happened to a man found dead on the MKT trail.

They're waiting on an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death of 43-year-old Timothy Ray Jones.

A jogger found Jones on the MKT Trail Tuesday morning.

It didn't take long for officials to rule his death a homicide.

"They ruled it based upon the wounds that were found on Mr. Jones, as well as the location where he was found, Columbia Police Spokesperson Latisha Stroer said.

Stroer told me Jones has lived in Columbia since 2003, but he didn't have a permanent home.

"He was kind of going from different residences in Columbia. We're not quite sure why he was on the trail, Stroer said.

Most of the residents I spoke with on White Oak Lane described their neighborhood to be quiet and crime free. But after what happened Tuesday morning some are starting to worry, and think different.

"I would say I TMm a little more concerned because I do use that trail with two young kids when the weather is nice outside. My husband also goes running on that trail too, Columbia Resident said. And I have thought what if that was him finding that body, that would be really scary."

Most residents told me that the neighborhood hasn't had anything like this happen in at least the last few years.

"We did a crime report before we moved into this neighborhood. We've lived here about 4 to 5 years and as far as I know this was the 1st incident in this neighborhood, Columbia Resident said.

Police still are trying to find leads and other information in this case.

"Right now detectives are trying to locate who had contact with him leading up to the time his body was found Tuesday morning, Stroer said.

Police asks if you have any information on Timothy Ray Jones to please call crime stoppers at 875-tips.

Update: Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 9:50pm:

Columbia Police identify the victim as 43 year old Timothy Ray Jones.

While an autopsy is not yet complete to determine the exact cause of death, detectives believe Jones was a victim of foul play. They are classifying his death as a homicide.

Jones was found with cuts to his upper body. Police do not know how long his body was at the trail entrance. The recent rain may have kept joggers away until this morning.

Police are asking anyone with information about Jones' whereabouts in the last 24 hours to contact them. Anyone who has seen anything suspicious in the area of White Oak Lane should also make a report.

Update: Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 6:06 p.m.:
