Osage Beach Police Officers act as sober chauffeurs

The Osage Beach Police Department will be offering impaired drivers a free and safe way to get home on New Year's Eve.

All they ask is if you have too much to drink somewhere in Osage Beach to give them a call, and they will take you home.

Osage Beach police have been doing this for almost 30 years.

Officers tell KRCG that they do this because it's a great way to make sure everyone stays safe on New Year's Eve.

"Osage Beach Police Department is here to keep our streets, residents, and visitors safe. If this is what we have to do to get people home safely than our department has decided we're going to do that, Osage Beach Police Cpl. Pete Leyva said.

If you plan on taking a ride with a police officer on New Year's Eve, they do ask that you bring and show them your identification for safety's sake.

"If you do need to utilize our services, you have to show us your identification, and you will be checked out, Osage Beach Police Sgt. Arlyne Page said.

Page said police officers will only take you home, not to other parties.

If you would like to use this service you should call Osage Beach Police Department at (573) 302-2010.
