Thursday morning, operational changes with Columbia's water system at the West Ash Pumping Station reservoir caused sediment to stir up.
According to officials, the sediment traveled into the water mains on the west side of Columbia. Water crews are flushing the water lines to remove the sediment.
Once the main lines are flushed out this afternoon, customers should be able to flush the water lines in buildings by letting the water run until it is clear. The water continues to be safe to drink.
