Nominate a mid-Missouri hero for a Lifesaver Award

Lifesaver Awards honor people, both citizens and trained professionals, who have exhibited heroic efforts in aiding a victim.

The American Red Cross Heart of Missouri Chapter kicked off the annual Lifesaver Award nominations Thursday morning.

The awards honor people, both citizens and trained professionals, who have exhibited heroic efforts in aiding a victim.

Award categories include: Good Samaritan, Youth, Blood Services, Military, Medical, Law Enforcement, Firefighter and Emergency Medical Services.

"It's the opportunity again to give praise and thanks back to the great people who walk amongst us, and who also support the plight and the mission of the American Red Cross," said Lifesaver Award co-chair Amy Berendzen.

The Heart of Missouri Chapter serves 21 counties in the state. Organizers hope to see Lifesaver nominations from all of those counties.

The awards take place on June 24 at the Capital West Event Center in Jefferson City. The chapter's Volunteer of the Year will also be honored at the event.

More information and the nomination form is available at the Red Cross website .

Nominations are open until May 1.
