      Motorists rescued in Maries County flooding

      Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman said a motorist was stranded near Highway 215 and Iberia firefighters had a very had time getting to him.

      Updated Wednesday August 7 at 9 a.m.:

      The Missouri Department of Transportation has closed Route 63 south of Vienna in Maries County.

      MoDOT said in a news release: "Floodwaters from the Gasconade River have caused a closure of all lanes on Route 63 south of Vienna in Maries County. Motorists and commercial motor carriers traveling on southbound Route 63 should use Route 50 to Route 28 at Rosebud then return to Route 63 near Vichy. Travelers northbound on Route 63 are asked to exit onto Route 28 through Owensville and then take Route 50 near Rosebud to get back on Route 63."

      "We will continue to monitor these areas until the floodwaters recede," said MoDOT Central District Engineer David Silvester.

      Authorities are urging motorists not to drive into standing water.Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman said a motorist was stranded near Highway 215 and Iberia firefighters had a very had time getting to him.He also said crews also stacked sandbags around a house near Vienna to prevent flooding which he said is "very bad".Numerous roads in Maries County are closed including, Highway V, Highway 42 near the 133 junction, Highway N by the Maries River Bridge along with Highway 133 and HH.Sheriff Heitman said drivers who go into standing water not only risk their own lives but also the lives of emergency responders as well.
