Mo. county considers online visits with inmates

A southwest Missouri county is planning to allow online visits to inmates in the county jail.
Christian County will install at least seven videoconferencing kiosks in the county jail in June. That would allow anyone with Internet access to visit an inmate.
The Springfield News-Leader reports the county will evaluate the videoconferencing program six months after it's installed.
Christian County Sheriff Joey Kyle says he suggested the videoconferencing as an alternative to in-person jail visits.
He says coordinating personal visits had created safety problems at the jail, such as inmates plotting to harm jailers and jail visitors fighting with one another.
The video conferences cost 30 cents per minute plus a service fee. A 30-minute call will cost about $15.
