Mizzou's Michael Sam named finalist for Nagurski award

Missouri defensive end Michael Sam has been named a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy. The award is given annually to the best defensive player in college football as voted upon by the Football Writers Association of America.

Sam has enjoyed a breakout senior season, leading the SEC in both tackles for loss (16) and sacks (10), and ranks in the top seven nationally in both categories.

Sam is the second Tiger to be named a finalist for the award. He joins former Jeff City Jay and Tiger All-American Justin Smith, who was finalist as a junior in 2000.

The winner will be announced December 9th in Charlotte, N.C. as part of the college football awards banquet.

Sam was also named one of four finalists for the Rotary Lombardi award for the nation's best interior lineman or linebacker.
