ST. LOUIS -- A Shannon County campground that once hosted weekend rock music festivals before its owners arrest on federal drug charges could soon be Missouri's newest state park.
The 330-acre Camp Zoe is a former youth camp located between Salem and Eminence off Missouri Highway 19. The property hosted Grateful Dead tribute bands and national touring acts before a 2010 police raid. Campground owner James Tebeau is serving a 30-month federal prison sentence after pleading guilty to maintaining drug-involved premises.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has bought the site, which was forfeited to the federal government.
Missouri parks director Bill Bryan says the state won an online auction with a winning bid of $640,000.
