Columbia Police conducted a manhunt Friday night and the target believed to be the suspect in a series of break-ins and sexual assaults.
The canine unit and even the Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter were brought in to search the wooded area between Old Highway 63 and Rock Quarry Road.
CPD officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of Rock Quarry Road just before 8pm Friday after someone spotted a suspicious person matching description of the assault suspect. Someone reported a white male wearing a black shirt and khaki shorts who took off running into the woods.
Earlier on Friday, authorities warned female college students to take extra precautions against an intruder. Police think that six incidents between May 1st and May 9th could be related.
In each case, a college-age woman reported a male suspect breaking into her apartment or trying to enter. The crimes included one sexual assault and a second attempted sex assault by an assailant with a knife.
