Two arrested, including man accused of pointing machete at victim
Columbia police arrested two people Sunday following a traffic stop in the 400 block of Vandiver Drive.
According to a release, officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Tupelo Place to locate 24-year-old Anthony Munzo. Law enforcement attempted to make contact at the residence with Munzo, but instead saw a male subject with a hoodie pulled up over his head carrying a backpack. A woman, identified as 31-year-old Amber Bowman, also exited the residence and got inside a vehicle with him.
Authorities said, a short time later, a sergeant then made a traffic stop on the vehicle with Munzo as the front passenger. He reportedly fled from police and was later apprehended at Providence Road and Texas Avenue. .
Officers also had probable cause for Munzo on a robbery charge from March 18. He was accused of stealing property from another man by pointing a large machete at the victim's face.
Law enforcement stated they found marijuana in his pants pocket upon the arrest. Two backpacks were discovered inside the vehicle by officers. They reportedly contained methamphetamine, marijuana, a handgun, ammunition and other items. An iPad was retrieved during the search, where it was connected to a burglary that happened in 2016.
Police said Munzo was arrested on suspicion of the following:
- His outstanding warrant for failure to appear on traffic offenses in Cooper County
- Robbery in the first degree
- Unlawful use of weapons
- Possession of controlled substance
- Resisting or interfering with an arrest
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Stealing misdemeanor
Bowman was also arrested on suspicion of hindering prosecution of a felony.
