Man pleads guilty in dog torture case

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A St. Louis man faces sentencing on October 4th after pleading guilty to animal abuse charges for killing five dogs inside a vacant building.

Darick Dashon Stallworth pleaded guilty at an emotional hearing Monday, during which his grandmother collapsed into an aisle of the courtroom. The room was cleared while emergency crews tended to her before carting her out on a stretcher. Her condition was not immediately known.

Members of Stray Rescue of St. Louis found the decomposing bodies of five adult pit bulls inside the building in May. The rescue group was called after a neighbor saw a dead dog dangling from the second-floor windowsill.

Stray Rescue said one of the dogs had been choked, another burned.
