Man lifeflighted after accident in Hwy 54

Baker, 69, of Dixon, died as a result of injuries sustained in the car accident.Update: Oct. 28 at 4:15 p.m.:Fulton Police have released more information about the accident on Highway 54 just north of Fulton this morning.Police said they received a call at approximately 11:30 a.m. about the accident. Police said a 2003 Ford F150 driven by Jerry W. Baker, 69, of Dixon apparently did not see the semi in front of him before rearending it. The pickup also caught fire after the accident.Both vehicles were deemed not driveable and removed from the scene.Baker was the patient lifeflighted from the scene to University Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer, John L. Davey, 59, of LaVista, Neb, was taken to the Callaway Community Hospital by ambulance.Original Story:One person has been lifeflighted following an accident on Highway 54 just north of Fulton.The accident happened in westbound lanes of traffic late Friday morning. Fulton Police said the lifeflighted man rearended a tractor trailer.FPD said the tractor trailer had just entered the highway from the median and was still trying to obtain highway speed. The driver of the semi entered the roadway in the left lane and had moved to the slower lane when the accident happened. According to police, the driver of a Ford F150 slammed into the back of the semi-truck.Witnesses told police it didn't look like the driver of the pickup tried to slow down before the accident. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer was also taken to a hospital by ambulance for his injuries.Highway 54 was briefly shut down while the ambulance and helicopter loaded the patients.
