Man headed to prison for hitting and killing 2 on I-70
A St. Louis man who pleaded guilty to the deaths of two men on I-70 is headed to prison.
On Monday, a Boone County Judge sentenced Earl Hutcherson to two 10 year sentences to be served at the same time.
Police said Hutcherson struck and killed two men in July 2011 on I-70 between the Highway 63 and Lake of the Woods exit in Columbia.
72-year-old Edward Taggart, of Prairie Home, and 73-year-old Gilbert Love, of Auxvasse, were traveling eastbound in separate vehicles when one of their vehicles ran out of gas.
Hutcherson allegedly struck the two men and their cars as they were using a gas can in the shoulder of the highway.
Hutcherson told police that he was using his cell phone just before the accident happened.
Last week, he pleaded guilty to two counts of vehicular involuntary manslaughter.
