Update: Tuesday May 10 at 12:05 p.m.: The Randolph County Prosecuting Attorney has charged Cassidy King, 25, of Moberly with abandonment of a corpse in the case of a dead newborn baby found in a pond.Abandonment of a corpse is a class 'D' felony.The Highway Patrol assisted in the arrest and King is being held in the Randolph County Jail on a $20,000 cash-only bond. On Sunday, a man and his girlfriend spotted and retrieved a duggle bag that was floating on a small pond.When they looked inside they found the infant's body.The pond is on private property about nine miles from the small town of Higbee in Randolph County. Authorities have arrested a woman, 25, who could be the mother of a dead baby boy found floating in a Randolph County pond on Mother TMs Day.
Authorities aren TMt releasing the name of the woman until they get a warrant from the courts. Authorities made the arrest after interviewing the woman who is now in custody at the Randolph County Jail. Authorities believe the suspect is the mother of the dead infant. They are waiting on DNA results to confirm that theory.
Randolph County Sheriff Mark Nichols said, The autopsy results and lab results are pending hopefully later on in the week we will receive those.
A passerby found the remains of the newborn baby in a duffle bag that was floating in a pond in a field near Highway H just west of Higbee, about 10 miles south of Moberly.
Authorities said the suspect is a relative of the family that owns the pond. Sheriff Nichols said there could be more arrests in the case.Randolph County authorities want anyone with any additional information about the death of the newborn baby to call their office at 660-277-5095.

Update: May 9 at 5:10 p.m.: The Randolph County Sheriff's Department has confirmed a 25-year-old Moberly woman was arrested in conjunction with the newborn baby's body that was found in a duffle bag in a pond.Authorities are still waiting on autopsy results to compare DNA, but they believe the woman was the baby's mother.She is in custody in the Randolph County Jail, but authorities are not currently releasing her name.Authorities said the woman may be a relative to the family that owns the property where the pond sits near Higbee. Randolph County Sheriff Mark Nichols said based on the condition of the corpse, it appears the baby died in the past few days. He said there were no leads in the case. Original Story: The Missouri Highway Patrol and Randolph County authorities are investigating the death of a baby found in a suitcase in a pond on Sunday.The Randolph County Sheriff's Department was called around 4:15 p.m. Sunday after a man found the body in a duffle bag in a small pond near Higbee. Deputies said the man found the duffle bag and it wasn't until he pulled it out of the pond that he discovered the body of the newborn.The Highway Patrol's Division of Crime and Drug control has been called to assist in the investigation. The body was taken to the Boone County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.Authorities are trying to figure out what happened. They want anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity to call their office at (660)277-5095.The investigation is on-going.
