A Callaway County man died Thursday evening after his home caught fire near Millersburg.
A neighbor reported the fire and a possible victim just before 11 in the 2900 block of Ben Oaks Drive.
Callaway County Sheriffâ??s Office deputies responded to the fire, as well as fire personnel from the Millersburg Fire Protection District, Central Callaway Fire Protection District, and New Bloomfield Fire Protection District. Callaway County EMS responded to provide necessary medical assistance.
Crews responding to the scene found the home fully engulfed in flames.
A neighbor and arriving family members pulled the victim, Robert Walker, 37, from the home. EMS personnel performed CPR, however, Walker was pronounced dead just after 11:30. Two children also living in the home escaped unharmed, according to a press release.
The preliminary investigation conducted by the Sheriffâ??s Office and Missouri State Fire Marshalâ??s Office indicates the fire likely started by unattended cooking in the residence kitchen. The State Fire Marshalâ??s Office will continue the scene investigation and later make a final ruling. There is no foul play suspected.
Walker was transported to the Boone / Callaway Medical Examinerâ??s Office and an autopsy will be conducted on Friday.
SERVE and the American Red Cross were contacted to provide assistance to the family.
