A 25-year-old man has been charged with murder in the stabbing deaths of five relatives, including four small children.
Mingdong Chen did not enter a plea at a court appearance Monday. He has been accused of butchering his cousin's wife and her four children in Brooklyn.
His defense attorney, Danielle Eaddy, declined to comment.
Police say Chen had been staying with the family on the first floor of the two-story brick house for about a week. They say he implicated himself in the killings.
Neighbors and relatives say he was unemployed after being fired from a string of restaurant jobs he held for just a few weeks at a time.
The working-class neighborhood is dominated by a large community of immigrants from China.
