Columbia Police have taken a 36 year-old man into custody in connection with a Super 8 Motel robbery that took place on Clark Lane Saturday.
Police say they were responding to an armed robbery at the Fast Lane 66 on Paris Road around 5:30 a.m. Monday when they saw a gray Chevrolet matching the description of the Super 8 Motel's robbery.
Both robberies happened a few blocks away from each other.
Officers attempted to stop the Chevrolet but the driver refused to stop.
The driver of the vehicle, Deshawn Smith, 36, of Columbia, ended up crashing his vehicle through a fence on Mulberry Drive and then ran from officers.
Smith was apprehended after a short foot pursuit.
Officers found a pink bandana and aviator-style sunglasses outside the driver's door of the wrecked car, as well as money in the same denominations as the money that was stolen from Fast Lane 66.
Police also recovered a handgun in a bush where Smith was taken into custody that matched descriptions of the handgun used in both robberies.
