A woman and her newborn baby are recovering in a hospital after a man allegedly stabbed the woman in her pregnant stomach Wednesday in Pulaski County.
The 30-year-old woman was in her ninth month of pregnancy at the time of the attack.
According to the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department, the woman and a male acquaintance, 28-year-old Mark Downing, got in an argument in the parking lot of the Road Ranger Truck Stop.
The suspect then allegedly stabbed the woman in her stomach.
The woman was rushed to the hospital where the baby was delivered by cesarean section.
The baby also suffered a stab wound.
Both the baby and the mother are recovering "well," according to a press release from the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department.
Downing was arrested after a short altercation with deputies shortly after the incident.
He is being held in Pulaski County Jail on two counts of first-degree assault.
His bond is $1,000,000.
