A major drug raid in the Rolla area has netted at least 28 suspects and officials say they hope to arrest at least 47 by the end of the day Tuesday.

According to Lt. Bruce Fiske of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the arrests are part of a warrant roundup being conducted by the patrol and several southeast Missouri law enforcement agencies, including the Phelps County Sheriff's Department, Rolla Police, Dent County Sheriff's, and St. James police.

The warrants were sought against suspects who have sold drugs to undercover agents in a 30-month long investigation.

Fiske said a variety of drugs are involved, including marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin, and prescription drugs. He said heroin is a drug of special concern in the Rolla area, as the incidence of heroin use has increased there lately.

Fiske said while not all of the intended suspects might be found and arrested today, some charges are being added as the raids progress. For instance, he said in the course of making a planned arrest, a marijuana growing operation was discovered that officers had not been aware of before.
