UPDATE Tuesday 11:30 a.m.:
The Rural Major Case Squad has been activated to help investigate the murder of a Sedalia man. Authorities say they need more manpower to help find out who shot Mike Smith, 30, in the kitchen of his home Sunday morning.
Commander Larry Ward with the Sedalia Police Department says it is not uncommon for smaller departments to ask for this help from outside agencies.
So far, no arrests have been made.
Ward says they are interviewing people who knew Smith, including his known enemies.
Smith's family believes the shooting is gang-related; police can TMt confirm or deny that.
Sedalia Police are investigating a man is shot to death around 4:00 a.m. Sunday.
Police say Mike Smith, 30, of Sedalia was gunned down in his home on 11th Street.
When police arrived, they found Smith's body on the kitchen floor. His friends trying to revive him.
Police say Smith was shot several times -- and friends say, this was no random shooting.Smith's family believes the shooting was intentional and possibly gang-related.Friends say about three weeks ago, someone shot at Smith while he was driving. They think that person is the same person responsible for killing Smith. The family admits he has a lengthy criminal past, but they say he was trying to put that behind him, saying he was about to graduate from State Fair Community College's welding program.
No arrests have been made.
