      Local pastor soon headed to trial

      Moniteau County Prosecuting Attorney Shayne Healea said that in the newest case two lesser sodomy charges have been upgraded to one felony count of forcible sodomy.

      A local pastor who is charged with multiple sex crimes could soon be headed to trial.

      A mid-Missouri judge found enough evidence and cause to turn the charges against Travis Smith to the circuit court system.

      Moniteau County Prosecuting Attorney Shayne Healea said that in the newest case two lesser sodomy charges have been upgraded to one felony count of forcible sodomy.

      If convicted, the charge carries a penalty with a minimum of five years in prison and life in prison at its maximum.

      Healea said there are 3 different victims from which a half dozen charges have been filed.

      Travis Smith is the pastor at the First Baptist Church in Stover.

      Smith will be arraignment in court on July 12th.

      A judge is expected to set a trial date soon after.
