New policy allows library employees to carry weapons

Daniel Boone Regional Library Human Resources Manager Melanie Henry said the library board voted unanimously Thursday night to approve a policy allowing employees to bring firearms to work. Friday was the first official day the policy was in place.

Before, the library had a policy stating employees could not bring firearms to the library even with a valid conceal carry. Henry said the library's attorney's discovered that having such a policy was not in compliance with Missouri state laws, and therefore, the library needed to change the policy.

Back in March, the board approved a policy to allow the public to bring guns into the library with a valid conceal carry license.

Henry said she does not foresee the new policy changing much in the work environment. She said this was a step the library needed to take in order to follow the law.
