Officials believe a juvenile playing with a lighter was the cause of a Monday afternoon duplex fire on Greensboro Drive.
The Columbia Fire Department arrived on the scene around 3:30 p.m. to find heavy smoke coming from a two story duplex.
Assistant Fire Marshal Tim Bach has determined the fire started in a first floor bedroom located in the back of the home.
The fire was located in a back bedroom and was brought under control in approximately twelve minutes.
Occupants were inside the home at the time of the fire, and all made it out safely with no reported injuries.
The total damage is estimated at $45,000.
American Red Cross Heart of Missouri Chapter volunteers are assisting two families impacted by a fire.
