Jefferson City Public School officials clarify automated voice message

Jefferson City Public School officials are clarifying the meaning behind an automated voice message that went out to students and parents last night.

JCPS Spokesman David Luther said that the message was simply meant to notify the public that they are aware of rumors circulating around about possible threats to the school and students.

Luther said that both the Jefferson City Police Department and school administration are following up on any rumors they hear, and have been unable to substantiate any notable threat.

One student at Simonsen Ninth Grade Center admitted to making inappropriate comments and is being disciplined.

Luther says that the JCPD has agreed to up its presence at area schools, and he feels the schools are safe.

Luther reiterated several times that any rumors are hearsay at this point, but they are following up on anything they hear.
