Jefferson City man charged with child molestation

Cardell Roberts, 48, of Jefferson City, is accused of two counts of improper sexual contact with children.

A Jefferson City man is charged with two counts of deviate sexual contact with a child, one charge alleging the victim was less than 14 years old.

According to a grand jury indictment in Cole County Circuit Court, prosecutors accuse Cardell T. Roberts, 48, of Jefferson City of child molestation for having deviate sexual contact with a boy under 14 in 2009. In charging Roberts with statutory sodomy, prosecutors say Roberts had sex with a child under the age of 17 in 2010, although it is unclear if the charges refer to the same victim.

If convicted, Roberts faces 15 years in prison on the child molestation charge, and one year in jail on the statutory sodomy charge.

He is currently being held in the Cole County jail on $200,000 bond.
