A Jefferson City man admitted to texting and driving after he was injured in a single vehicle crash on the 600 block of Dix Road on Sunday night.

According to the Jefferson City Police Department, a 2012 Dodge Avenger, driven by 39-year-old Eric Wickern, was traveling northbound around 9 p.m. and ran off the right side of the roadway, striking a utility pole.

Jefferson City Police said in a crash report that alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Wickern admitted to police that he was also texting on his cell phone at the time of the crash.

The pole was broken in the crash, and the roadway closed for several hours while utility companies worked to replace the pole.

Wickern was later taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
