Jefferson City Fire Chief search narrowed to three

The three finalists for the position of Jefferson City Fire Chief are Fire Captain Jay Niemeyer, Fire Captain Matt Schofield, and Interim Fire Chief Jason Turner.

The committee charged with recommending a new fire chief for Jefferson City has narrowed its list to three finalists, all of whom currently work for the department: Fire Captain Jay Niemeyer, Fire Captain Matt Schofield, and Interim Fire Chief Jason Turner.

The Chief position has been open since the retirement last year of long-time Chief Robert Rennick. The Jefferson City charter calls for his replacement to be recommended by the city administrator and approved by the city council.

The next step in the selection process is a public forum scheduled for Thursday, July 24 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. The public is invited to attend and ask questions.

Finalists will also take part in personal interviews with the recommendation committee and a forum with fire department employees. That forum will be streamed live on the city's website.

The fire department has said that it will look for a qualified candidate from within the city's ranks before expanding the search.
