Inmate awaits charges for allegedly killing cellmate

Ryan Vaught, 23, is a suspect in the death of Daniel Skipper.

Charges are pending against an inmate at the Jefferson City Correctional Center after another inmate was killed Sunday.

The Cole County Sheriff's Office was notified by corrections officials that Daniel Skipper, 65, died after a disturbance in his cell late Sunday.

The suspect was identified as Skipper's cellmate, 23-year-old Ryan Vaught.

Corrections officers and medical personnel tried unsuccessfully to revive Skipper, who had multiple wounds on his face and neck, as well as a piece of fabric wrapped around his neck.

Skipper was serving a sentence for statutory rape and sodomy.

Vaught was put in a segregated unit while officers continue their investigation.
