The 4th of July is finally here.
Some people said the holiday means a day off from work to watch fireworks and have a barbeque.
Others said the celebration has a much deeper meaning.
Hundreds of people spent their 4th of July afternoon at Columbiaâ??s Stephens Lake Park. We asked them, what does Independence Day mean to you?
They said, â??I think about why we have the 4th of July to celebrate the freedom that we have. Itâ??s time to spend time with family and friends and be thankful and celebrate America.â??
â??Basically, in one word, freedom. Itâ??s freedom to stay with family, enjoy the weather and be yourself. Thatâ??s what the 4th of July means to me.â??
â??Itâ??s time to spend time with my family and enjoy the freedoms that we have in this country.â??
â??It means summer fun. It means hanging out with family, fireworks and celebrating our country.â??

Several people said the 4th of July is a day to honor those who fought and continue to fight for our freedoms. They said every day is a good day to thank a veteran.
They said Independence Day is a day to celebrate our freedoms, although freedom isnâ??t free.
Some people said they will honor those who paid for our freedoms with their lives while they watch public fireworks displays.
