      Homeless person beats man for insulting girlfriend

      Thomas Carter was arrested for armed criminal action and first-degree assault.


      A homeless Columbia man was arrested early Monday morning after beating a man.




      Police said at about 1:15 a.m. Sunday they were called to 28 North Ninth St. for an assault.




      They said Thomas Carter Jr. was trying to fight a man for insulting his girlfriend.




      The man pulled out a knife and Carter took a skateboard and hit the man several times in the head and face.




      Carter was arrested for armed criminal action and first-degree assault.




      The victim was taken to a hospital by ambulance in serious condition.
