Homeless man charged with arson after setting vacant home on fire

UPDATE: A homeless man was arrested after setting a vacant Jefferson City house on fire early Tuesday morning.

David A. Garceau is charged with first-degree arson. His bond is set at $35,000.

Jefferson City Police noticed a large amount of smoke and found the house on fire at 111 Adams St. just before 1:00 a.m.

They also located numerous people who were sleeping in the vacant house and were able to escape the fire. After interviewing the victims it was believed that the fire was possibly set by Garceau.

Garceau was located in the area by officers. After positively identifying him, detectives were able to determine that he started the fire knowing squatters were asleep inside the house.
