Holiday weekend begins with Columbia shootings

Columbia police are looking for suspects in two separate shooting incidents that occurred within a few block of one another.
The first shooting occurred Thursday at 8:15 p.m. at the intersection of Garth Ave. and Oak Street. After the shooting was reported, a 39-year-old gunshot victim was brought to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. There were no arrests made and the investigation is ongoing.
The second shooting happened just after midnight Friday at the intersection of Worley Street and McBaine Ave. Witnesses told police three men were standing at the intersection when they were approached by two other men who then started shooting at them. Everyone fled the scene before police arrived and officers are unsure of any injuries. A parked car and an unoccupied residence were hit by bullets. Officers located over 20 shell casings at the intersection.
