A high-speed chase through the streets of Jefferson City ended in a crash.

It started when Jefferson City police were trying to stop Matthew Mangus, 44, of Centertown for a traffic violation at about 6:30 p.m..

Mangus didn't stop and instead took off along Missouri Boulevard and Highway 179, then west, past the Capital Mall to Rainbow Drive.

He failed to make a curve near the intersection of rainbow and covered wagon road, where he then crashed his car.

"All we saw was the car run off the corner of the road and cops were chasing him and they were on him so he went right off the corner and rolled,â?? One witness of the chase said. â??It happened so fast, it was all over."

Police arrested Mangus at the scene where he was then taken by ambulance to St. Mary's for cuts and bruises.

Mangus is charged with the felony of first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle.

His bond is set at $10,000.
