The beach at Finger Lakes in Columbia is temporarily closed after water samples taken Tuesday revealed bacteria levels higher than those recommended for waters used for swimming.

The beach at Finger Lakes in Columbia is temporarily closed after water samples taken Tuesday revealed bacteria levels higher than those recommended for waters used for swimming.

The state park beaches at Harry S Truman in Warsaw, Wakonda in La Grange and Thousand Hills in Kirksville are also temporarily closed because of high bacteria levels. The campground beach at Harry S Truman is still open, and visitors who wish to use it should stop by the office or fee booth to get a free pass.

When tests from the beaches show bacteria levels are within the standard suitable for swimming, they will reopen. Information about beach statuses are posted at dnr.mo.gov and mostateparks.com.
