Heroin overdoses land two Jefferson City men in jail

The Jefferson City Police Department's Community Action Team investigated two separate heroin overdoses this week.

On Tuesday, a male was found lying on the floor with a needle sticking out of his arm in an apartment on Sunset Lake Road. Jefferson City Police said he was unresponsive when they arrived on the scene.

Police said 32-year-old Michael L. Strader was revived on the scene and then transported to Capitol Region Medical Center.

An investigation revealed heroin and paraphernalia associated with heroin use in the suspect's apartment. Strader, was later released from the hospital and arrested for possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Wednesday, police were flagged down in the 1000 block of Madison in reference to an unconscious male. Shawn A. Moore, 33, of Jefferson City, was found lying in a yard, unconscious and bleeding from his arm.

Moore was revived on scene by medical personnel and transported to Capitol Region Medical Center. When he was released from the hospital, officers attempted to arrest Moore; but the suspect tried to assault the officers and struggled to get away.

Officers restrained Moore and took him into custody for possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
