Governor denies clemency hours before execution

Governor Nixon denies clemency for convicted killed Michael Taylor.

UPDATE--February 26, 12:45am: Missouri inmate Michael Taylor has been executed for abducting, raping, and killing 15-year-old Ann Harrison in 1989.

ORIGINAL STORY--Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has denied clemency for convicted killer Michael Taylor, hours before Taylor was scheduled to be put to death.

The 8th District Court of Appeals also denied his appeal. Taylor still has an appeals pending before U.S. Supreme Court. He is scheduled to die by injection at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday for killing 15-year-old Ann Harrison in Kansas City in 1989.

Taylor's attorneys have questioned Missouri's use of an unnamed compounding pharmacy to provide the pentobarbital for his execution. They also say Taylor's original trial attorney was so overworked that she encouraged him to plead guilty to lessen her own workload.

Some who are close to the case say they're shocked it's taken so long for Missouri to punish Taylor.
