Gov. Nixon unveils youth jobs program at parks

Gov. Jay Nixon visited Rock Bridge Memorial State Park in Boone County to announce a new program for young people.

Nixon is encouraging Missourians between the ages of 17 and 24 to take part in the 2010 State Parks Youth Corps Program.

This innovative summer employment program will put 1,000 Missouri youth to work at Missouri State Parks and historic sites.

The youth will assist with a variety of projects such as cutting trails, performing maintenance work, inventorying plants and wildlife, and providing tours.

These positions that will provide young people with summer employment of up to 240 hours at $7.25 an hour are being funded by the Federal Recovery Act and the Federal Workforce Investment Act, Nixon said.
