A 31-year-old woman was taken into custody Monday morning after she tried to steal a car.

A victim reported to police that a woman, later identified as Jasmine Allen, of Fulton, tried to steal a vehicle from a shop in the 5600 block of Hawk Lake Drive. Allen drove the vehicle into a shop door, causing damage to both the building and the vehicle, a police release stated.

Police then said Allen ran to a residence in the area and tried to force her way in. A resident at that location was able to remove her after being assaulted by Allen, according to the release.

The victim from the shop had taken a picture of Allen and saw her run to the back door of a nearby residence. Police took her into custody there.

Allen was arrested on suspicion of two counts of first-degree burglary, first-degree tampering, first-degree property damage, fourth-degree assault and for being a parole obsconder from the St. Louis area.

She was booked into the Callaway County Jail.
