Fulton man's death being investigated

A parked vehicle caught the attention of a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper Thursday night.

The vehicle, parked on the shoulder of U.S. 54 near Missouri Route BB in Callaway County, had its lights on and doors open. As the trooper approached the car, he saw someone, later identified as Joseph Cockrum, 25, of Fulton, Mo., rolling in the grass.

After the trooper made contact with him, Cockrum became aggressive and began experiencing medical problems.

Troopers requested assistance from emergency medical services and began CPR. Cockrum was transported to Callaway County Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is being conducted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control. An autopsy was scheduled at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
